Sheep are gross. The Day Has Come! is the debut full-length by Sticker Kids, which is more or less the precursor to WHHAWJ. At this point, it was a trio: guitar, mandolin, and electric bass. I have a hatred of electric bass now, but this was a different time. I'm leaving it up here for historical purposes, even though I really don't like it anymore. Free downloads! walking on sunshine is fine and well, talking to yourself is better as is changing the subject when someone mentions you. are you ashamed of what you do when no one's watching you? when they ask you, just laugh. no, really, while we're here, let's honestly ask: would it be so bad to give up chance and always know what's coming? it's more of the same. the day i had was not great but i can't stop myself from praying for more of the same. some days i'm an ancient beast awakened from an ancient sleep. the drugs they put me on weren't strong enough for me. are you ashamed of what you say when no one's there to blame? when they point and you, just laugh. no, really, while we're here, let's make a pact: would it be so bad to give up now and leave the rest to others to wonder what you could have been? out the window of our hotel room i see a movie theater screening more of the same.
Track Name: Going to Pittsburgh
on the phone last night i laughed and for the first time, we agreed. i held onto the thought that we could be somehow happy. i thought of you and watched my whole life flash before my eyes and paid attention to the time. i was almost screaming when the day became the night but i'm going to pittsburgh now and i don't really mind that in the letter that you thought i didn't open there's a message reminding me to breathe and the person that you swear you won't become is not my enemy. all the guilt i bring must somehow put some meaning in your life. we're getting by on borrowed time. this won't last forever but i'm going to pittsburgh tonight and in the letter that you thought i didn't open there's a sticker, and it makes me it makes me it makes me it makes me it makes me wanna smile and you're the person that you're scared to become but that's not as terrible as you think.
Track Name: the National See-Through Peoples' Convention of 1994 (Fishbowl)
step one drive your car into a junkyard, no dumping is a rule that is very harsh. we got backpacks we got stray cats, i'm the prince of kirby's dream land i got motion sickness and a green hat. step two stick your hands into your pockets and remember you forgot all your dreams and your goals at home. we've got cops and robbers flashing lights tryn'a make us think we're not invisible, i think i'm not invisible. don't be blue, just because you're see-through. when everyone gets super powers, you'll get some too - the day has come. it's true! step three poke your head into the conference room, oh the meeting's almost starting can i squeeze on through. bump into the seat of an invisible pair of pants, it doesn't count because no one saw it happen, no one saw it happen. step four, shut your lip, wait until the asteroid hits - the day has come. it's true! step five come inside to the fire that we made, the fire that we started using twigs and leaves. signal to the others, stick your head into a fishbowl, signal to the others but no one saw the signal, no one saw the signal. have no fear, our bodies are clear. when every one gets super powers, shed no tears - the time is soon, the place is here, please come back next year!
Track Name: Song about You!
get yourself together. start at the beginning. breathe in deeply, don't love sight of what you are. i'll hold you down until i don't feel the need. i promise not to loose my grip when you try to speak. you could give yourself up. you could turn yourself in. you could give yourself up but i won't be there when that day comes. you could live with yourself. i could teach you myself when i hear you listening to the thought that this is all you get. listening to the thought that this is all you get. listening to the thought that this is all. i'm a ghost that everyone can see. you tell me something looks not right at all with me. i can see the muscles in your face, they're almost falling out now. both of us know what to do but only one knows how, i will keep it on the down low, keep it on the down low, never let it go. you could give yourself up. you could turn yourself in. you could give yourself up but when the day comes don't come looking. you could rat out our friends. you could spill what i did. you could rat out our friends but i am not the bad guy in the end we've got the comfort of knowing this is all you get. we've got the comfort of knowing this is all you get. we've got the comfort of knowing this is all you get. we've got the comfort of knowing this is all. and on a day when nobody woke up, who's to say if we're really there at all? if you fell down and stopped moving i can't say i'd make a sound. if everybody disappeared would there be music and how loud? i'll keep it on the down low, keep it on the down low and never let it go.
Track Name: Fisherman's Paradise
thirty days away you'll feel the same you did today and say that days are just a way of counting. i'll take you home and on the way we'll find a place where we can stay and stare at things the universe has made for us and freeze. pass through the snow at the edge of the lake. catch yourself before you make a big mistake. think twice, think three times. steal the reflection of the moon in the water, clutch it hard and wait. nestled in the arms of cushions you can feel the tiny ocean roaring at the center of your being. darkness is a way of thinking, yeah i think there's something floating out there glowing like some magic thing. we're finding fisherman's paradise tonight. crawl trough a tunnel and scream when it's bright. take the wheel, it's too beautiful to drive. think twice, think three times, take a look around at all this paradise that we're passing by.
Track Name: a Sky Pirate and Him
i am a lamp casting shadows on the furniture, staining curtains yellow, and drinking every drop. I am a sail reaching twenty feet above us, protecting our blonde hair from the brisk september air. and three miles downwind, mountains fall and rise. look to your left, it's an unforgettable view! right is too. believe me, girl, it's right for you. you are a shoreline being pulled towards the horizon, running dangerously parallel to the curve in my spine. and the twinkle in your eye sets off a thousand radars. heat sensitive faces face heat seeking cannon balls! so it's your call: do you wanna stay and crash or jump and fall? do you wanna stay and crash or jump and fall?
Track Name: DEAD SONG
i wanna build a house that's filled with people that fell apart and lost their cool. i'd take you there and you could see the side of humanity your mother never wanted you to see. can you walk in front? my feet are getting sore. i run too fast when i'm this cold. we could try and maybe see if this stuff works like in that movie, we could burn that house down til it's clean. and i can't see your hand in my eyes. you could block my sight but i'll still listen and be satisfied. there's no more roads to walk beside. we could smell the ashes one more time. is it true what they say about a life? it goes by much faster than you think. a nursery rhyme, a crooked line, i can't help but think it's intertwined. and i can't see your hand in my eyes. i could walk away and you won't know the places i go cause in this old house the dead still walk. they're faster than the water on your face. i can't see your hand in my eyes. you can't stop the way my fingers curl around your burning hair. there's no more roads to walk beside, oh, we could smell the ashes one more time, oh i can't see the time going by. there's not much point in looking straight into the dark that's coming. we might last. two more days. our hearts will burn like corpses on a wire. keep going like you got somewhere to go. keep going like you got somewhere to go. keep going like you got somewhere to go. or give up and let the dead come home.
Track Name: Mud, the End of Everything / More of the Same Reprise
MUD, THE END OF EVERYTHING:
take a little off the top, i need a fresh start. asleep in a car in a parking lot. i'll picture your face on imaginary friends and i'm trying to contain myself cause you're not part of me. speak in inside voices, inside voices, inside voices... people flash and flicker like an old computer screen or half remembered dreams. i got a new haircut do you like it? i hope not. you kept me as a thought but i forgot, i forgot, i forgot. i'll be singing bout the end that's coming closer while we're lying down. i was never in this town. always so precocious, so enamored with the concept of a better world. never getting tired or passing out. sleep and hope tomorrow's not today. sleep and hope tomorrow brings savannahs or a wide open plain and make growling noises, growling noises, growling noises... i'll try to grow out of what you said i'd always be with positivity. i got a new haircut do you think it suits my style? stay with me and i'll whisper we can't stay here, don't belong here, we can't stay here. i'm a little crazier than you are but that doesn't mean i can't be understood. i really wish you would look into my eyeballs, i deserve a chance at life or at least a few goodbyes spoken softly, written crudely with a broken twig in the mud. the day has come, have no fear, let the end of everything appear. we'll watch it come, laugh and cheer, and let the end of everything appear. the day has come, have no fear. yeah, the day of everything's here! watch it come, laugh and cheer and let the end of everything appear, let it appear in the mud.
OUTRO (MORE OF THE SAME, REPRISE):
would it be so bad to give up all the things that you held close if it helped somebody out? would it be so bad to die if it meant their friends could have a happy ending?
Track Name: The Day Has Come
i saw it coming years ago - the day when everyone gets everything they want - the day has come. when the smoke clears and you find yourself reborn, cast a spell - chant 'the day has come, the day has come'.
Track Name: Pigs That Ran Straightaway into the Water, Triumph of (by the Mountain Goats)
(WE DIDN'T WRITE THIS SONG. PLEASE DON'T THINK THAT WE DID.)
woo! you're gonna send me back to where i came from, please don't send me back to where i came from. let me go where the white magnolias grow. you're gonna fit me for that orange jumpsuit, please don't fit me for that orange jumpsuit. let me ride where the dragonflies glide. yeah but you're gonna do what you wanna do, no matter what i ask of you. you think you hold the high hand, i've got my doubts. i come from Chino, where the asphalt sprouts. big bus headed southeast from the courthouse, but i'm not headed southeast from the courthouse. let some mysterious chunk of space debris puncture the roof and set me free. even if i have to go to Claremont, well i guess i'll just have to go to Claremont. let me go, let me lie low. yeah but you're gonna do what you wanna do, no matter what i ask of you. you send your dark messengers to tempt me, but i come from Chino, so all your threats are empty.
